Rate case UE-260007

Avista filed a four-year electric and natural gas rate plan with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission on January 16, 2026 (dockets UE-260007 and UG-260008). On the electric side it seeks $111.0 million in 2027 (16.5% in base rates, 13.9% on a billed basis), then $42.5 million (4.7% billed) in 2028, $33.5 million (3.5%) in 2029 and $27.9 million (2.8%) in 2030, over four years; the residential billed increase for 2027 is 13.9%, or $17.21 a month for a customer using 925 kWh who pays $124.23 today. Avista says it needs the money for grid modernization, wildfire safety, hydro upgrades, clean-energy compliance and power supply costs not in current rates, and it asks for a 10.2% return on equity. The case is contested: evidentiary hearings were held September 17-18, 2026, the commission's statutory suspension date is December 15, 2026, and Avista wants new rates on January 1, 2027.
