Case timeline
- Nov 2025Filed with the commission as docket E-2, Sub 1380
Duke Energy Progress filed with the North Carolina Utilities Commission on November 20, 2025 for a two-year plan worth about $729 million, or 15.1% overall over 2027 and 2028 (SEC filing). The WFAE hearing notice gives the average residential increase as 18.5%, the figure shown here, while WECT reports the original request as 18.1% without naming a customer class. It points to plant investment, coal ash costs and a 10.95% return on equity. By August 2026 it had settled with the state's Public Staff for a smaller increase that would raise residential rates 6.8% over two years; the attorney general declined to sign, and the commission still has to decide, with new rates targeted for January 1, 2027.
