Northern Indiana Public Service Co. (NIPSCO) filed on Sept. 12, 2024 to raise electric revenue by about $368.7 million a year, which it said would mean an overall 22% ($32 a month) increase for the average residential customer, to pay for new generation and transmission and distribution projects. A settlement with the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor, industrial customers and others cut the increase to about $257 million with a 9.75% return on equity. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved the settlement without changes on June 26, 2025; NIPSCO says the average residential customer using 672 kWh a month pays about $23 more, or 16.75%, phased in from July 2025 through the first quarter of 2026.
