Louisville Gas and Electric filed on May 30, 2025 to raise electric base revenue by about $105 million, or 8.3%, alongside a separate 14% gas increase; it was the utility's first request since 2020. Its customer notice put the average residential electric increase at 10.12%, or $11.04 a month for a home using 866 kWh, to pay for infrastructure upgrades and rising costs, including severe-weather costs. Proposed rates took effect January 1, 2026, subject to refund. On February 16, 2026 the Kentucky Public Service Commission approved a modified settlement worth roughly $59 million a year for electric service, with a 9.775% return on equity, raising the average residential electric bill $5.14 (4.73%), from $108.76 to $113.90; it rejected a proposed earnings sharing mechanism and ordered refunds of the excess collected since January 1.
