Kentucky Utilities filed for its first base-rate increase since 2020 on May 30, 2025, seeking about $226 million a year, or 11.5% of electric revenue. Its customer notice put the average residential increase at 13.55%, or $18.15 a month for a home using 1,085 kWh; the utility said it needed the money for infrastructure upgrades and rising costs, including severe-weather costs. KU put its proposed rates into effect January 1, 2026, subject to refund, after an October 2025 settlement with the Attorney General and other parties proposed $132 million. On February 16, 2026 the Kentucky Public Service Commission approved the settlement with changes, for about $128.5 million and a 9.775% return on equity, raising the average residential bill $8.73 (6.54%), from $133.57 to $142.30, and ordering refunds of the excess collected since January 1.
